“The Wall” a Short Story by Victor A. Davis

The two men looked like they had lived in the forest for months. They had beards down to their chests. Their faces had the complexion of a white man but the texture and color of an elder native. Their clothes were torn, but made of strong material. Their muddied boots looked as if they hadn’t been removed for weeks, a part of their bodies now. The first man analyzed me with deep brown eyes, machete hanging from his arm at his side. The second man stepped around beside him and raised his hand in a wave. Neither smiled. I supposed I might be the first human being they’d seen in a while.
